I am incredibly proud to serve the Prospect Fire Department and to participate in a new event aimed at raising money for our local firefighters on October 11. This event took place on the last day of Fire Prevention Week, and our small town came together to support our dedicated firefighters.
Despite having a population of just 700, the community showed up at the firehouse and generously contributed to our fundraiser. Fire Chief David Terry was ecstatic when a gentleman arrived with his wife and agreed to become a volunteer firefighter for Prospect. After they left, David turned to me and said that, from his perspective, this event was a total success because we gained a volunteer with experience in fighting fires. Just having this individual agree to help made the event worthwhile.
I want to emphasize that our small town lacks a church or large businesses to provide regular support. However, when I reached out to the Prospect Historical Society and contacted the Prospect Store and the Community Club for assistance with baking pies and preparing lunches, I was pleasantly surprised. To my astonishment, I received more pies than I could sell! That day, the lunch special was lasagna, which the guys said was fantastic. The overwhelming support from the women in our community was heartwarming, and their enthusiasm for our firehouse was truly amazing.
It’s important to remember that without these dedicated men and women in our community, we would be at a loss if a fire were to strike. They undergo vigorous training and require up-to-date equipment. Fighting fires today has changed, and our firefighters need to be trained in specific techniques for battling chemical fires, wood fires, and forest fires.
Special thanks to Lyndsey, our Prospect town clerk, Fire Chief David Terry, and all the men and women (including Amy) who attended the event and helped out. We raised $500 and welcomed a new firefighter. Chief Terry was beyond happy.
Thank you, Prospect, but we can do better. We are committed to helping our firefighters obtain the new equipment they truly need.
Thank you all for supporting my mission to the end. Community involvement is the name of the game!
I love this little town. Yeah, we are a bunch of weird ducks, but hey, we can come together when the call goes out. Be Proud of this town and its history because we are bigger than you think and stronger than you know.
