*** Update on High Speed Internet for Prospect ***

High-speed fiber internet is expanding into Prospect. The rollout will occur in multi-phases to reach the unserved and underserved locations in Prospect and three other communities (Frankfort, Stockton Springs, Winterport) as part of the 1A Waldo County Broadband Coalition, a regional infrastructure project.

Current Status: Initial Phase: This phase is supported by the Partnerships Enabling Middle Mile (PEMM) grant, Direct Communications matching funds, and municipal ARPA contributions. Construction began in June 2026.  In May 2026 Prospect approved the equipment HUB site easement. Mainline construction remains on schedule for completion in Fall 2026.

Future Expansion: Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program: Direct Communications is leveraging federal and state grant funds alongside private matching contributions to bring fiber access to remaining unserved and underserved locations.

Service Access: Once infrastructure project phases are completed, certified and tested, residents and businesses will gain access to symmetrical high-speed fiber service. Direct Communications will notify eligible addresses as service activates in specific zones.
