Fort Knox & Penobscot Narrows Bridge
Fort Knox, Maine, is a historic 19th-century granite fortification on the Penobscot River, designed to protect against potential British naval attacks, and is one of New England’s best-preserved military structures. Visitors can explore the fort’s architecture and, in conjunction with a fee, ascend the nearby Penobscot Narrows Observatory for panoramic views. It was named after Major General Henry Knox, the first U.S. Secretary of War.
